About Michigan CPA Directory

What this is

A complete, free directory of every certified public accountant licensed to practice in Michigan — 11,388 CPAs across 590 cities, plus 1,352 licensed accounting firms. Another 2,090 active licensees give an address outside Michigan; they appear on a single roster page rather than a profile. You can look anyone up by city or name without creating an account or paying anything.

Why it exists

Anyone with a preparer tax ID can charge to file your return. Only a CPA, an enrolled agent, or an attorney can represent you before the IRS if that return is ever questioned. The state publishes who holds a license, but its lookup answers one name or license number at a time and assumes you already know who you are looking for.

This site turns that list into something you can browse by city. If you already know who you want, confirm they are on it in seconds. If you don't, tell us what you need and we'll make an introduction.

Where the data comes from

Every listing is built from the public license list published by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), whose Bureau of Professional Licensing administers the Michigan Board of Accountancy (opens in new tab). That export covers every profession LARA regulates; we use only the Accountancy rows. Our copy is dated September 14, 2026.

For each licensee the export carries a name, city, county, license number, the dates the license was issued and expires, and its status. It does not carry phone numbers, employers, fees, or specialties — so neither do we, unless a CPA tells us themselves.

The export carries no disciplinary history. Board actions, if any, appear on the licensee's own record at LARA — every profile shows the license number and links to the board's lookup (opens in new tab) so you can search on it. A copy can lag reality, too, so confirm current status there before you hire anyone.

Who is listed — and who is not

Michigan issues three accountancy credentials, and we treat them differently on purpose:

  • Licensed Accountants may practice public accounting. Every active one with a Michigan address gets a profile here.
  • Registered Accountants hold the CPA certificate but are not licensed to offer services to the public. We leave all 4,850 of them out rather than list someone you cannot hire.
  • Accountancy Firms are licensed businesses. A firm appears on its city page — name, county, license number, and the year it was licensed — when that city has at least one licensed CPA. Firms do not get profile pages.

Only licenses whose status is Active are published. The export carries 2 suspended licenses; we drop those before anything is written to the site. LARA's public list carries only current licenses, so there are no expired or lapsed names to filter — but a license can change status between our rebuilds, which is why every profile points you back to the board.

The export also carries a street address, ZIP code, and email address for every licensee. For most sole practitioners that address is a home. We never publish any of the three — they are not written to the site at all, so they cannot leak through a page, its source, or the structured data search engines read. City and county are as precise as this site gets.

If this is your listing

You can ask us to correct anything that's wrong, add details the license list doesn't carry, or remove your listing altogether — no reason required, no argument. Once removed, you stay removed through every later refresh. Get in touch and we'll take care of it.

Who runs it

I'm Brooks Conkle, an entrepreneur and online creator in Mobile, Alabama. I built CPAsinAlabama.com (opens in new tab) first, for my own state — as a business owner I found it genuinely hard to track down a good CPA, with the information scattered across outdated and clunky government search tools. Then CPAsinFlorida.com (opens in new tab), CPAsinColorado.com (opens in new tab), and CPAsinMississippi.com (opens in new tab). Michigan is the fifth.

More about me and my other projects at brooksconkle.com (opens in new tab). Michigan CPA Directory is operated by Kea Marketing LLC. It is an independent directory, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Michigan Board of Accountancy, LARA, or any state agency.

How it stays free

Browsing is free, always, and there's no charge to be listed — every active licensed CPA on the state list is here whether they know it or not. CPAs can optionally pay to upgrade a listing with a photo, bio, specialties, and contact details. On a few pages we also link to partner services and earn a commission if you sign up, always with a disclosure right next to the link. That's what keeps the lights on.

Upgraded listings are marked Featured and appear above the rest. Everything else is listed strictly alphabetically by surname — we never quietly reorder the free listings based on who is paying, and a Featured badge means someone bought placement, not that we rate them more highly.

Questions, corrections, or complaints all go to the same place — our contact page.
